This latest update from Fleetnetics is a way to address the proper classification of inventory items. It will help you sort your inventory appropriately into two categories only, as it should be - Parts (P) and Service Items (S).

Workshop Job Module

The new update in the Fleetnetics workshop management software can be found in the Workshop Job module.

Whether you are creating a new workshop job or just editing an existing one, the newly added manual line item can be accessed by users.

Go to the ‘Service Items’ section of the Job Order form.

From there, you can find a new flag icon.

Click on the flag icon to manually add a line item.

You can see that the Type of the item is tagged as ‘M’. Since this is a manual item and not registered in the inventory module, there is no item number indicated.

The only field required for this manual line item is the ‘Description.’ This one is a free-text field, so you have the freedom to type anything appropriate for the job order you are creating.

Moreover, just like parts and service line items, you can change the unit price, mechanics and their corresponding amount.

This manual line item on the workshop job, which allows you to add job items manually, is a great feature to have in an auto repair shop software as it provides flexibility on a case-by-case basis.

However, the misuse of this feature can lead to a messy inventory. Your inventory needs to be synchronised with the physical inventory, and has to be transparent to avoid job disruption.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a manual line item in Fleetnetics Workshop Management System?

A manual line item lets users add a job item directly on a workshop job order without it being registered in the inventory module. It's tagged with Type 'M' and requires only a free-text Description field, giving flexibility for case-by-case job entries.

How do I add a manual line item to a workshop job order in Fleetnetics?

Open the Workshop Job module, go to the 'Service Items' section of the Job Order form, and click the flag icon. This adds a manual line item where you can enter a description, unit price, and assign mechanics with their corresponding amount.

What are the two inventory categories in Fleetnetics Workshop Management?

Fleetnetics classifies workshop inventory into two categories: Parts (P) and Service Items (S). The manual line item feature helps ensure items are sorted appropriately into these categories, even for items not yet registered in inventory.

What are the risks of using the manual line item feature?

Since manual line items aren't tied to the inventory module, overusing this feature can cause inventory records to fall out of sync with physical stock. Fleetnetics recommends keeping inventory transparent and synchronised to avoid disruptions to workshop jobs.
