Singpass Integration for Your Vehicle Rental System: What It Does and How It Works

Updated: Jul 29

In short: Singpass integration connects your rental software to Singapore's national digital identity service, so customer details arrive already verified instead of typed in by hand. In Fleetnetics, this runs through Singpass Myinfo, the customer's consent, their name, NRIC and driving licence details will flow straight into the customer record.

This article explains what Singpass integration actually connects, how the retrieval works at the counter in Fleetnetics, what it changes for onboarding, additional drivers and KYC compliance, and which parts are live today. Myinfo retrieval is available now, and Sign with Singpass remains in the pipeline.

What is Singpass integration, and what does it actually connect?

Singpass is Singapore's national digital identity system, run by GovTech. Most people know it as the way they log in to government services, check their CPF or file their taxes. Private businesses can connect to it too, and that connection is what the term Singpass integration describes.

Two different services sit behind the name, and telling them apart makes the rest of this article easier to follow.

  1. Singpass Login proves who someone is. It returns an authenticated session and confirms that the person on the other end holds a valid Singpass account, in much the same way a social login works.

  1. Singpass Myinfo returns the data. After a customer authenticates, Myinfo can pass back verified personal details drawn from government records held by agencies such as ICA, LTA and IRAS. The customer sees exactly which fields are being requested and approves the release before anything moves.

The distinction matters for a rental business because the login alone would not save your counter staff any typing. The verified data is the part that removes work, and that is also where Fleetnetics will help you.

For a business owner, the practical read is this: Singpass integration is not a security product you bolt on. It is a data pipe that replaces a manual step your team performs on every single booking.

Why does Singpass integration matter for a vehicle rental business?

Identity checking is unavoidable in vehicle rental. You are handing over an asset worth tens of thousands of dollars to someone you may have met four minutes ago, so you need to know who they are and whether they are licensed to drive it.

The usual version of that check involves a physical NRIC, a licence, a photocopier and someone re-typing the details into a system. Every one of those steps is a chance to mis-key a digit, and a wrong NRIC on a rental agreement is a problem you only discover when you need it most.

Adoption is the reason this works in Singapore specifically. GovTech's Singpass page, last updated in June 2026, reports 5 million Singpass users completing over 41 million transactions each month across more than 2,700 services from 800 government agencies and businesses. More than 4.2 million of those users have the Singpass app on their phone. In practice, almost every local customer at your counter is already set up for this

That level of coverage is what makes the integration worth building against. If only a third of your customers could use it, you would still be running the paper process in parallel.

Fleetnetics has been built for this market since DewTouch Innovations was founded in Singapore in 2012, and more than 180,000 rental agreements have been processed through the platform as of July 2026.

Singpass sits on top of that existing vehicle rental management system rather than replacing any part of it. Operators such as E-Cube Car Rental run their day to day rental operations on the same platform.

What does Singpass integration change at the rental counter?

Five things change once verified data replaces manual capture, and they are worth taking one at a time.

Faster customer onboarding with Myinfo

Verifying a customer's identity by hand takes time your counter staff do not have during a Saturday morning queue. Singpass Myinfo retrieves verified data such as NRIC and driving licence details in one request, once the customer consents. Your team confirms the rental in minutes instead of working through a folder of photocopies.

Additional drivers without the extra paperwork

Corporate fleet rentals usually involve more than one driver, and each additional driver historically meant another round of documents. Additional driver details can be retrieved through Myinfo in the same way, with that driver's own consent. The process gets shorter for individual renters and noticeably shorter for corporate clients booking several vehicles at once.

Fewer data entry errors

Manual entry produces typos, and typos in an NRIC or a licence class create real exposure later. Data arriving from Myinfo comes from government records, so the field is right the first time. Your staff spend the recovered minutes on customers rather than on keyboards.

Compliance and KYC that hold up

Know Your Customer obligations sit behind most rental businesses, and the evidence you keep matters as much as the check itself. Verified retrieval gives you customer data with a government source behind it, held against the customer and driver records in your system. For car rental operators in Singapore, that record is what you produce when a claim, a dispute or an audit arrives. It also pairs naturally with the due diligence checks before handing over a vehicle that many operators already run.

Customer trust

People have become cautious about handing personal data to businesses, and reasonably so. A Singpass consent screen is familiar and government-backed, which makes customers more comfortable sharing details than a paper form ever did. Trust at the counter tends to show up later as repeat bookings.

If your fleet is small and you rent to the same handful of corporate accounts every month, the onboarding gain will be modest. The compliance record is usually the stronger reason to adopt it in that situation.

How does Singpass Myinfo work in Fleetnetics, step by step?

The retrieval happens inside the customer record, so nothing about your existing booking flow needs to change.

Your staff member opens Add Customer in Fleetnetics and stays on the Individual tab. At the top right of the customer form sits a button marked Retrieve Myinfo with Singpass. Once the customer consents through Singpass, verified fields populate the record, including Principal Name (from Myinfo), NRIC / FIN / Passport No., Date of Birth, Gender and Nationality.

The same form carries an Is Driver? toggle, which marks the customer as the person driving the vehicle. Additional drivers go through the same customer record process.

One point worth being clear about, because it affects how you design your front desk process: customer-facing online booking runs through Booknetics, and Fleetnetics handles the back office. The Myinfo retrieval described here is a back-office action performed against the customer record.

What is live in Fleetnetics today, and what is coming next?

Being precise here matters more than sounding impressive, so here is the current position.

With Singpass integration on Fleetnetics, a vehicle rental business can:

  1. Verify customers instantly with Myinfo, so identity checks stop depending on a document presented across the counter.

  2. Retrieve the latest driving licence information digitally, which matters because a licence held on file can be out of date by the time the vehicle leaves.

  3. Allow the hirer to digitally sign the rental agreement using Sign with Singpass. This one is coming soon rather than available today.

  4. Stay secure and compliant with Singapore's regulations, because the customer record carries a consented, government-sourced verification behind it.

Points one, two and four are live in Fleetnetics now. Point three is the only item still in the pipeline, and once it is released, the last piece of paper leaves the handover.

If a fully paperless agreement is your goal, the honest answer today is that Singpass gets you most of the way and the signature step is still to come. Operators working through a broader plan for digitalising a car rental business usually sequence identity verification first anyway, because it removes the most repeated task.

Fleetnetics maintains a 99% customer retention rate, which reflects how the platform is developed: features are released when they work in a live counter environment.

Frequently asked questions

What is Singpass integration for a vehicle rental system?

Singpass integration connects rental software to Singapore's national digital identity service so that customer identity data can be retrieved from government records instead of entered by hand. In Fleetnetics, this uses Singpass Myinfo. With the customer's consent, verified details such as NRIC and driving licence information populate the customer record directly.

What customer data can Fleetnetics retrieve through Singpass Myinfo?

Fleetnetics retrieves the verified fields the customer consents to release, including principal name, NRIC or FIN, date of birth, gender, nationality and driving licence information. The customer approves the specific fields before any data moves. Nothing is retrieved without that consent, and the data comes from government records rather than from a document scan.

Can customers sign rental agreements online using Singpass?

Not in Fleetnetics yet. Sign with Singpass is an upcoming feature rather than a current one. Singpass Myinfo retrieval is the part that is live today, so identity verification and licence checks are already digital while the signature step remains on your existing process until the feature is released.

Can additional drivers be verified with Singpass?

Yes. Additional driver details can be retrieved through Singpass Myinfo in the same way as the main hirer, with that driver's own consent. This is most useful for corporate fleet rentals, where several authorised drivers are attached to one agreement and each one would otherwise require a separate round of documents.

How do I integrate Singpass with my car rental software?

If you already run Fleetnetics, Singpass Myinfo retrieval is available on the platform and can be enabled for your account. Businesses integrating Singpass independently register through the Singpass Developer Portal and connect using the published OIDC-based APIs, which requires development resource. Most rental operators reach it through their rental system instead.

Does Singpass integration help with KYC compliance?

Yes. Retrieving customer data from government records with documented consent produces a stronger verification record than a photocopied NRIC. That record supports Know Your Customer obligations and gives you traceable evidence when a dispute, an insurance claim or an audit requires you to show who rented a vehicle and on what licence.
